Alex Cockle

Alex Cockle has been involved in music since the age of four when his father Manny taught him the harmonica. He grew up listening to the greats of jazz and soul music. During that time Alex studied classical piano for twelve years with Paul Commeau in Truro and completed his grade eight piano exam. He was a member of the Cornwall Youth Jazz Orchestra and many well known local bands. Alex then studied music at university for three years and even enjoyed a scholarship year in America before graduating with a first class honors degree in music. He has since lived in London and worked as a professional musician throughout Europe performing at many exclusive venues including The Royal Festival Hall.

Alex has dedicated 20 years of his career to music teaching. The students he was teaching ten years ago in London are still running 'Catford Music School' on his behalf. His home project 'Kernow Music School' has proven to be a success in the last four years. Alex's dedication to music now continues through his training schemes and in creating opportunities for new teachers.

The inspiration to initiate Kernow Music School occurred exactly twelve months after completing a transatlantic sailing trip from Falmouth UK to Saint Lucia in the Caribbean Sea. A family voyage covering 4500 miles during 2006. Manny, Sue, Victor and Alex were all crew onboard 'Thisbe', the faithful Nicholson 32 from Mylor.

Many new paths in our lives have been forged as a result of such an inspiring journey. I felt it was necessary to bring together both of my lifelong pursuits and start a music school near the sea, Falmouth of course shares that inspiration with us.
